Nosebleed (Epistaxis)
Bleeding from the nose caused by trauma or other factors.
Nosebleed, or epistaxis, is a common condition that involves bleeding from the blood vessels in the nose. It can result from trauma, dry air, or underlying health conditions.
First aid for a nosebleed involves having the casualty sit upright and lean forward slightly to prevent blood from flowing down the throat. The casualty should pinch the soft part of the nose just below the bony bridge for about 10 to 20 minutes.
Applying a cold compress to the back of the neck can also help. If the bleeding persists beyond 20 minutes or recurs frequently, medical evaluation is necessary to rule out more serious conditions.
Pinch and Lean Forward: Pinch the nostrils together and lean forward to prevent blood from flowing down the throat.
Hold for 10 Minutes: Maintain pressure for at least 10 minutes.
Avoid Nose Blowing: Refrain from blowing the nose for several hours after the bleeding stops.
Seek Medical Help: If bleeding persists for more than 20 minutes or is severe, seek medical attention.
A nosebleed, or epistaxis, is a common occurrence caused by the rupture of small blood vessels inside the nose. It can result from trauma, dry air, or medical conditions.
